Cocoon Company

The history about Cocoon Company

The idea behind the family business Cocoon Company started in 2011 from a desire to create a greener world by developing 100% natural and hypoallergenic products focusing on organic materials, sustainability and the environment. But actually, the story of Cocoon Company started long before 2011. More specifically, right back to when our youngest son Phillip was small. Phillip would get incredibly hot during the night and would often wake up damp with sweat. We tried all the traditional bedding materials such as down, feathers and foam, but they offered little help.

In our search for alternative materials we stumbled across the natural fibre kapok, which is fantastic for regulating warmth and moisture. By developing these kapok products, we not only found a solution for our son, but also a passion for creating the best and most natural bedding products for others, so that they too could achieve a perfect night’s sleep.

Since then our assortment has grown with more kapok products, a wool, bedding and maize product line and laundry products. We are constantly working to develop the best and most natural products for the benefit of both nature and our customers.

We hope you enjoy your organic and sustainable Cocoon product.

Best regards Martin, Torben, Phillip & Jane

The name Cocoon comes from the idea of a small, environmentally-conscious business that, like a chrysalis, will develop into a green and sustainable butterfly – a butterfly that is your guarantee for a natural, hypoallergenic, chemical-free and organic bedding product!

Our vision

To make a significant contribution to the population’s use of sustainable resources. Thereby improving human health and further strengthening the climate and environment of the globe.

Our mission

That Cocoon Company, through new and innovative business models as well as responsible sourcing, is able to develop health-promoting and environmentally conscious products that create world-class results.

We want to make a difference – for you and our nature

At Cocoon Company, we are very committed to being sustainable by constantly challenging ourselves to utilize the world’s resources in the most responsible, best and natural way. By choosing natural, organic and environmentally friendly raw materials without adding chemicals or synthetic materials, we thereby reduce our imprint on the earth.

In addition to choosing our raw materials carefully, we also challenge ourselves to optimize the use of the world’s resources as best as possible. It is reflected in our product series Amazing Maize, that is made from a plant-based maize fiber which is a 100% recyclable resource and therefore also 100% biodegradable.

Another important topic to shed light on when talking about sustainability is how the products are manufactured. Most of our products are produced manually and processed as little as possible like our kapok, merino wool and laundry products. Furthermore, the production of our maize fiber is almost 70% less demanding than regular synthetic fibers. That means that our maize fiber production is considered CO2 neutral.

A good cooperation for the benefit of us and our partners

It is not only important to us that our products are environmentally friendly but also that they are produced in a proper way by happy and satisfied employees. That is why our production is SA8000 certified, which means that our production staff is treated properly and works under good and safe conditions. Read about the certificate here.

However, it is not enough for us to just be certified, we want to be better than that. When we negotiate with our suppliers, it is important that our cooperation benefits both them and us. Great product quality and a good partnership is more important to us than getting the cheapest price for our commodities. That way we also help the local population by getting a fair income.

Better than the standard

We can all do more for the environment, and we all have a responsibility. At Cocoon we fully accept this responsibility and want to pave the way. We want to raise the bar for what is possible and for how much more we can do to create the most natural, pure and organic products we possibly can. Our demands on raw materials, packaging and production are far higher than what existing certifications demand. All of our fabrics are certified 100% organic cotton. We never mix the pure organic cotton fibres with cellulose-produced fibres such as lyocell or bamboo to soften the fabric or treat the cotton fabric with chemicals such as formaldehyde. We want a 100% pure, natural and chemical-free product.

The fibres we use for filling and carefully selected from the best quality raw materials and processed with the least possible impact on the environment.

Therefore, it is also important to mention the Oeko-Tex certification, which is an eco-friendly certification, and not an ecological certification, as many believe. This certification merely requires that the product does not contain remnants of chemicals higher than what is harmful to humans. So, when you buy an Okeo-Tex certified product you are not guaranteed a 100% chemical free product.

We therefore encourage you, as a consumer, to be as critical as us. Although many products are marketed as 100% organic, it is always a good idea to find out what the product is made of. Only that way you can make sure that you buy a 100% organic product, and not just a 70% organic fabric product.
